Nate's 38th Birthday

Nate's Birthday was April 17! We celebrated by getting up early (since he had to work...boooo!) and making blueberry lemony cream cheese pancakes. I cooked and the birthday boy got to open presents. He got a book he wanted, the new Harry Connick Jr. CD, some new shoes, and the Muppet Show, Season 1! (also, some Chemex filters, just for fun). What a great morning! At night, we had homemade carrot cake (made by me!). If you ever had wanted to see a grown man eat an entire cake in two days (we had to leave for St. Louis for easter two days later...) this would have been your opportunity!
Eating early! Pancakes and sausages with our early riser, Asher!
Birthday boy with coffee and carrot cake! We didn't have
38 candles, so we gave him a 3. LOL!

goofy guy.
Rhy woke up early, but she wasn't ALLLL the way awake!
NOW she is!! Big smiles for daddy.

Love our little family and our cozy morning kitchen!

hugs for dad!

NOLA-Part 4

One of the old oak trees in City park, hung with Spanish Moss. SOO cool!
These trees look like they just got so tired, they had to lay down their branches on the ground!
New Orleans cemetary in the Garden District
One of many old mansions in the Garden District.
24 hour beignets? OKAY!!
Nate and I stopped at the Faulkner House, where Faulkner lived while
he was writing in New Orleans back in the early 1900s. Now, it is a super-cool
book store. We each bought a book... he got Louis Armstrong's autobiography and
I got a book of Faulkner's essays from New Orleans. They were both fantastic! When
we were finished reading, we swapped books!
Bourbon Street. Crazy. Loud. Horribly stinky. Filled with bars and vodoo shops and jazz.
And teeming with life! Quite an experience!

NOLA-Part 3

At the Napoleon House. I had a duck Po'boy. Nate had a Muffaletta. SOOO yum!
My first Mint Julep!
At Jackson Square! It was hopping due to French Quarter Fest.
Street musicians...incredible!
An oyster seller in the French Market.
Amazing street musicians!

NOLA-Part 2

Nate gets a street poet ("Cubs" the poet) to write a poem for me. :)
wrought iron and crooked shutters everywhere!
My guy. Love him madly.
You see some of the STRANGEST stores in NOLA!

NOLA-Part1

Nate and I were blessed to be able to go to New Orleans recently. Together. Without KIDS! Here are some photos from our stay...more to come soon!
Cafe du monde. We had beignets and cafe au lait at midnight the same night we landed in NOLA,
then we had them every night we were there.
Nate LOVED this cafe. Slow drip. YUM.
Street musicians...SO talented!
